Over a month removed from my visit to San Francisco, CA for college hunting, and I am still dreaming of the oh so delicious Umami Veggie Burger. This must have been the BEST, and I will say it again, THE BEST! Veggie Burger I have ever had!
Let me just preface this by saying that this is our 3rd meal in 4 hours. We (my son, cousins, nephew and I) were on a “food trip” through San Francisco, starting with Starbucks and Roli Roti Gourmet Rotisserie at the San Francisco Ferry Building, followed by Umami Burger and topped off by decadent ice cream from Bi-Rite Creamery.
Located at 2184 Union Street, San Francisco, CA, in the urban part of the city, there was a bit of a wait at Umami, but it was well worth it. The menu is short and sweet and most of Umami’s ingredients include roasted tomatoes, shitake and portabello mushrooms, anchovies and their special ketchup. The flavors burst while you enjoy every bite.
We started off with their Parmesan Truffle Fries which was sinfully yummy! I ordered the Umami Veggie Burger made with grilled portabello and shitake mushrooms with caramelized onions, roasted tomatoes, parmesan crisps and Umami’s special homemade ketchup. My son ordered the Manly Burger made with beer-cheddar cheese, smoked salt- onion strings, bacon lardons, Umami Ketchup and mustard. He must have enjoyed it as he wiped his plate clean.
The wait was not bad as you can shop while waiting for your table. The host calls you when your table is almost ready or gives you one of those beepers. Service was pleasant and the prices are very reasonable. Whether you choose just the truffle fries, mashed up tater tots, Umami veggie or Manly Burger, there is no lack of flavor. I would pay $11 for a super loaded Umami Veggie Burger any day, as in my opinion, it is the BEST Veggie Burger I’ve ever had. I can’t wait for my next trip out West!
Oh and I forgot to mention, the bun is grilled, too… yummmmmy!
Happy EATs!
